A couple of weeks ago we packed up half our house (because, babies) and traveled to Colorado for a fun-filled mini reunion weekend with friends. Months ago we decided to make the trip for the Air Force/Navy game and then we managed to convince a few of our other friends to join us. Best. Decision. Ever. I say it all the time, but I wish we could have a friend reunion every year!
Typically we fly out on the first flight of the morning, but this time we decided to leave after Taylor got off work and ended up grabbing dinner once we got to the airport. Usually Paul sits in a high chair at restaurants, but we had to make do with him in our laps while eating. He is becoming such a busy boy! It was all we could do to keep him entertained while we scarfed down our food.
Although way past Paul’s bedtime, we made it through the flight without a meltdown and picked up our minivan rental. (Y’all, I take back every negative minivan word I’ve ever said.) I always forget how far the drive from Denver to Csprings is, but we made it and then crashed into bed. Paul had his first ever sleep in a pack ‘n play and while it took some adjusting to, he was a trooper all weekend.
While we waited for everyone else to arrive on Friday, we got to wander around the soaring squadron with Erin and then we all met up for lunch at Pueblo Viejo with Brett and Dean. It was beyond precious to see our boys together. They’re only six months apart and we can’t wait to watch them grow up together like their dads did.
On Saturday, we enjoyed a slow morning with everyone before the tailgate up at the Academy. Thankfully Brett suggested that we just attend the tailgate and watch the game from the house. After enjoying some lunch and a petting zoo (???), we watched Erin do a pre-game acrobatic routine in her glider and then headed back to the house. It ended up being perfect because the babies got to take naps and we got extra time to visit with everyone with a cookout.
Because no trip to Colorado is complete without a visit to the Garden of the Gods, we trekked out there with camera in tow and had a fun hike/photoshoot to commemorate Dean’s first birthday the week before. Please tell me these photos don’t make your heart explode into a million pieces.
Before Marie and Ryan left to catch their flight, we had one last meal at Rudy’s and then got a few more pics together of course. Also, how am I a professional photographer and yet always manage to get my finger in so many iPhone pictures?!
Before our flight on Monday, we ran by the Academy one more time to do some exploring. Taylor said it was weird to be there on a Monday and not miserably sitting in a class. Ha!
